POEMS and LYRICS
I’ve been writing poetry for twenty years or so. One of the things I’ve learned writing it, is that you can write a poem about anything. So for me poetry isn’t some kind of arcane puzzle, it’s just another way to tell the stories that everyone shares.
I love hearing poets read their poetry; the voice seems to lend it an accessibility that can be elusive otherwise - especially as the poems are more abstract. The poet themselves know how the inflections are to be and the pauses and the tempo, etc. It’s like singing, but then again not like singing.
I tried it here - it’s entirely more difficult to do than you can imagine - and this is a short one…
When we moved into a new house, my father's wedding ring got lost. later my daughter put our cat into the heating duct. I imagined this story.
